Balhalla: Dancing on live folk music in Ghent

Balhalla is a non-profit organisation that regularly organises folk balls at a fixed venue in Ghent. Our mission is to introduce as many people as possible to the wonderful world of balfolk music and dance. Through our dance initiations and accessible jam sessions, we strive to keep our events welcoming and low-threshold.

With the exception of July and August, we organise a monthly ball at the Paulushuis in Ghent. Prior to the ball, a dance initiation is always provided for those who are not yet familiar with balfolk dance. The evening is invariably rounded off with an accessible jam session, open to anyone who can play an instrument or sing.

Balhalla has meanwhile become known in the balfolk community for its cosy, intimate and warm dance evenings. Feeling curious? Then be sure to come along and experience an evening full of relaxation and positive, musical energy!

About us

Balhalla consists of a core group of 4 young people who love balfolk. In corona times the idea and desire to organise a ball arose. In 2022, Michael, Corneel, Dries and Margot finally joined forces and founded Balhalla vzw. Our first ball took place in June 2022, with success, after which many others could and will follow.

Each event is made possible by volunteers. Are you interested in lending a hand, one-off or on a regular basis? Please contact us via this form https://forms.gle/zJ8S8cN6JKFYongV8 or at volunteers@balhalla.be. We have shifts for both dancers as listeners. We also take into account wishes to join the dance initiation, end of the ball or the jam next to the volunteer shift(s).
